In the period from September, 17 2018 to October, 12 2018 29-people group of pupils from School Complex under the name of Jadwiga Grodzka in Łęczyca, Poland who study in the profession of economics technician (14 people) and IT technician (15 people) took part in 4-week internship in Greece. Vocational training was realized within the project: „Praktyki zagraniczne dla uczniów technikum” / “Foreign trainings for students from vocational school”.

The aim of the vocational training was enhancing professional competences of the students and gaining by them experience in working in international environment, which results in improving their attractiveness at labor market. The internship was also a chance for young people to develop their language competences and the knowledge concerning the culture of Greece.

The training enabled youth to become familiar with the specificity of work in Greek enterprises. Students studying in the profession of economics technician developed their knowledge connected with managing correspondence and documents circulation. Moreover, participants possess practical knowledge concerning correspondence archiving and materials processing. Students know the methods of documents ordering and segregation, and wage creating and analyzing. Participants developed also their knowledge concerning employment indicators, pay indicators and accountancy policy. After the vocational training interns know the documentation applied in accountancy and are able to analyze and verify it, including the documents which are and are not the subject of doing the accounts. Students are familiar with the forms of accountancy evidence and methods of their preparation, procedures concerning issuing the invoices and customer settlements. Participants are able to plan the demands and interconnected costs. Interns possess also the skills connected with preparation of financial registers and knowledge concerning labor law regulations and human resources department documentation. Students are familiar with the rules connected with income and cost register and the methods of economic analysis on the basis of accountancy data, accounts data and methods of communication with banks. After the vocational training participants know and are able to use computer programs applied in accountancy and the procedures concerning capital assets, interests calculation, methods of sale costs calculation and taxes. They know the methods of taking inventory, economic analysis and financial analysis as well.

Students studying in the profession of IT technician developed their knowledge connected with conducting repairs of computer equipment and its maintenance. They are able to use register editors, system units and modify them, to connect computer and electronic equipment, to conduct activities concerning repairs of printers and laptops, to re-install operating systems, to update software, clear cache storage and format discs. Participants are able to conduct works concerning testing and diagnosing of computer equipment, conduct diagnostic tests of hard discs and graphic cards, check optical discs in terms of proper data reading and recording. Students developed their skills connected with adjusting proper configuration o computer equipment (including software) depending on different purposes and know how to upgrade and modernize computer sets and change the components for newer ones. After the vocational training interns are able to conduct works concerning ordering and archiving and knows how to use network supplies of the company, and manage service. Moreover, they are able to use network supplies of the company, including Internet, local network, e-mail, telephone book, address book, FTP, databases and spread sheets. Students became also familiar with various programming languages including PHP, SQL, Delphi C++ and are able to assembly and connect wires to Patch Panel including the differentiation of color sequences and to tighten wires with the use of specific equipment and measuring the proper length. Moreover, they got to know how to connect wires to computer equipment, are able to prepare wires to connections of Ethernet type and other plugins, and are able to verify the correctness of the assembly. Students improved their skills concerning browsing and creating data bases and application software systems. Participants are able to analyze security systems of the company, know the safety procedures and are able to assembly new monitoring units. Interns are also aware of the regulations concerning safe transportation of computer equipment including.

During the free time participants were getting to know Greek culture and customs. Taking advantage of the first free day the whole group visited Skiathos Island. During the cruise participants took part in Greek party under to supervision of captain Kostas, who encouraged them to dance. During the trip students visited also so called ‘golden beach’, where they took advantage of good weather and swam in the Aegean Sea. On Sunday the whole group went to Meteora – where they visited one of the settled high on the rocks monasteries. During another weekend – The cultural program would not be full without a trip to Thessaloniki – the second, considering the size – city of Greece, where students saw White Tower, promenade, the monument of Alexander the Great and visited local market.

In the afternoons participants were sightseeing neighboring attractions, such as Litochoro, Enipeas Ravine, Platamonas and ‘its’ castle on a hill and Paleos Panteleimonas – ancient village located high in the mountains. They also found some time for relaxing on the beach, swimming in the pool and shopping at a local market in Leptokaria. During the stay in Greece participants tasted traditional Greek dishes, such as moussaka, staffed peppers and tomatoes, tzatziki and Greek salad. Students became also familiar with the production process of feta cheese and olive oil during the visits in local factories. Evening were also spent in an active way. Participants took part in dancing competitions, discos and board games rounds.

To sum up, the vocational training in Greece enabled students to develop professionally and for majority of them it was an unforgettable experience, when they could become familiar with “a piece of a world”, ‘taste’ a different lifestyle, become more communicative , open and brave, and considering all these they improved their English language skills. Participation in the training was confirmed with a certificate of attendance and Europass Mobility document, which states the skills and competences acquired by the participants.
